We all do it. Come up with grand ideas in our heads about what we’ll do, how often, how great it will feel and how awesome we’ll look. Plus, the harder, sweatier, more intense it is, the better! I’m talking about exercise. It’s taken on such monumental weight (no pun intended) in our lives because it’s become something extra that you have to fit in, rather than something that is just naturally part of your existence. I used to be lucky enough to live in a city where walking was the main form of transportation in my life. On any given day, I would walk for about 2 hours, just getting around. But now, I live in LA. Which I adore, but…

Welcome to week two of my three part May Meditation Series! I hope you enjoyed last week’s video on alternate nostril breathing, and that in practicing that gloriously calming technique, you’re ready to take it to the next level with a seated breath meditation. I won’t go into too many details here as this video is a little on the longer side (8.5 minutes, I guess I was feeling chatty that day!). But here is a preview of what you will receive when you watch it: The issues I had with meditation when I first began practicing. The truth about the “right” way to meditate. Advice on how to approach it when you’re first starting out. Clear instructions on doing a seated…

Last week I asked, “What do you want?” You may quite honestly have responded, I don’t know. The truth is, we all have many voices speaking to us from within (not to mention all the voices from without). These internal voices might want different things, and might even contradict each other. All these conflicting messages can drive us to confusion, undesired results, anxiety, fear, and stagnation. Here’s my take on it. There’s a big difference between what the ego, or little self, wants versus what the Soul, or Higher Self, wants. When you get in touch with what your Soul wants, that feeling of total serenity washes over, because it speaks loudly as truth, and is deeply connected to your heart. Whether…

My mission these days is to get people to ask themselves this very simple yet vitally important question. Seems easy enough, you might even think you already do it, but I guarantee most of the time your mind flips so fast to obstacles, fears, insecurities, and judgment that you don’t even have time to be aware of what it is that you want in any given situation, far less from life in general. I wouldn’t bring this up if it wasn’t something intimately connected to my own life. I recently had to get very real about what it is that I want for my business. I went through an in depth process that led me to the exact nature of how I want…

Farting isn’t cute. That’s right, I said it (my mother is probably horrified!). But seriously, it’s a natural human function that we would all probably like to keep to a minimum, yet some of us are more challenged than others. With a predominantly vegan diet, I eat A LOT of vegetables, fruit, and beans. All fabulously healthy and exploding with nutrients, yet the masses of fiber can act like little gas belly bombs. When I first did a 21-day vegan cleanse a few years ago, I literally had the thought, I will never be able to live with another human ever again. Perhaps you are also undergoing some Spring cleansing or other healthful dietary shifts and experiencing the same problem? Fear not!
The other night I was tossing something around in my head. Going back and forth, “well, I kinda feel this way, but then there’s this.” (I’d be more specific, but that’s a little too personal). I realized I’d been grappling with this issue for days, perhaps even weeks! That’s a lot of time and mental energy spent on something that wasn’t getting any closer to being resolved. And why? Because I don’t have a solution. I’m trying to use my will in an area of my life that isn’t up to me. And why isn’t it?? Because it’s not about me! It’s about someone else and I have no control over that person or anyone else. When I realized I was getting myself…

This smoothie is packed with nutrients and fiber, and tastes phenomenal! Great for breakfast or a midday snack. On evenings when I am teaching yoga, I have it for dinner so I can feel satisfied before class and still feel comfortable enough to teach. Please excuse the rough measurements. That’s just how I roll in the kitchen. It’s fun to experiment with the proportions that work best for you! Ingredients: - 1/2 a banana - 1/2 an avocado - chunk of cucumber (about 1/4 of a regular size cucumber) - handful of kale - handful of swiss chard - piece of fresh ginger - juice of 1/2 a lemon - ice - about 3/4…

Do you ever sit down in front of your computer with a clear intention to get work done, then find yourself spaced out on Facebook or just stuck? The ideas aren’t flowing. The words aren’t coming easily. Whatever it is you’re doing feels like a chore? In our internet based lifestyles, I think most of us experience this more often than we realize. Yet somehow it’s taken for granted that we must spend hours upon hours each day on our computers or other such devices in order to be functional, productive, and engaged. I’m currently plugging through an online based program. The first week I was flying because the work was incredibly inspiring and I was making a lot of breakthroughs. Second…

It’s late at night. I’ve had a full day of teaching, yet I still have a lot of work to do at home. I start strong, plugging away, the ideas flowing. But then I hit a wall. I’m tired, and I’m not thinking clearly. Getting frustrated, I decide it’s time to take a shower and head to bed. When I’m in the shower, suddenly I have an epiphany about a problem I’ve been tossing around in my head. Something becomes clear and the inspiration starts flowing again. After that I’m able to come back to my computer and quickly finish the project I was struggling through just a moment before. This happens to me often. I’ll have good momentum with my work, then…
